COLOMBIA
The 'Voices of Recovery' project in Colombia has been developed in the municipalities of Marquetalia (Caldas), Florencia and La Montañita (Caquetá). Both Caldas, an Andean coffee region, and Caquetá, an Amazon region, share high levels of multidimensional poverty, especially in rural areas. In addition, they face strong impacts associated with armed violence, environmental degradation and natural risks, all of which are conditions of vulnerability that have been deepened by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The effects of the pandemic have been particularly important on school dropout rates, the living conditions of rural women, the poverty situation of peasant families, barriers to community practice, mistrust in institutions and difficulties in accessing state aid and health services.
In the "Voices of Recovery" project we have worked with organisations and collectives of young people, rural women and survivors of the armed conflict, under the assumption that in joint and organisational action there is a powerful recovery strategy.
In Colombia, the project has been funded by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) of Canada, the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (Minciencias - Colombia), the University of Caldas (Manizales-Colombia) and the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC - United Kingdom).
